Click Here To See A Secret Weapon For Crappie Fishing My Friend Discovered In 2004

Fishing with crappie minnows is the most accepted way of fishing for both black crappie and white crappie throughout the united states. You can take your children out for a fishing outing with just a simple fishing rig such a inexpensive cane pole with small bobber split shot sinker and a hook to catch crappie. Or you can become a skilled crappie angler and target large slab crappie. In both of these examples the use of live bait such as crappie minnows is an important part of crappie fishing. In our article today we will discuss crappie minnow rigging methods.

Crappie minnows as a live bait presentation can be fished in many ways such as under a bobber at a fixed depth, tight line with no weight, just a hook and a minnow, trolled tipped on a crappie jig, casted and retrieved tipped with crappie minnows on spinner baits to name just a few. There are so many ways to catch crappie I could not mention them all. You would think these great tasting table fair would get fished out but that is not true, because these fish populate and grow very quickly. My point is that crappies plain and simple love crappie minnows and it will bite on just about any live bait presentation you put in front of them if you use the right presentation at the right time.

There are some crappie fishing basics you need to understand even for the simplest of live bait fishing used to catch crappie.

#1 Hook selection for crappie fishing.
You want to select a light gauge wire hook with a long shank such as a gold Aberdeen hook. The hook size will depend on the size of the crappie minnows you are using for live bait. For small to medium crappie minnows the hook sizes range would be from a number 4 to a number 1 hook. If you are more experienced and you are going after the elusive slab crappie you will need to use large crappie minnows so your hook selection will increase in size to between a number 1/0 to 2/0 hook.

#2 How to hook crappie minnows.
Now that you have selected your hook size it is time to rig your crappie minnow. You are probably think this is so trivial but rigging a minnow correctly can make the difference between catching crappie or going home empty handed. You want to hook your crappie minnow live bait presentation so it looks as natural to the fishes environment as possible. The most common and excellent way to hook your crappie minnow is by pushing the hook up through the lower lip through the upper lip so the barb of the hook is pointing at you when you are finished. This method works great for fishing under a bobber or while you are drifting or trolling.

I want to thank you for reading my article about live bait presentation. Have a great day and the the best of luck to you on your next fishing trip

Click Here To See A Secret Weapon For Crappie Fishing My Friend Discovered In 2004

The crappie is one of the most sought after gamefish from both beginner and expert fisherman and goes by many aliases such as calico bass, speckled bass, white perch, pole crappie, strawberry bass, and papermouth. The white perch feed on a variety of different food sources but their primary food chain includes small crappie bait fish such as fathead minnows, small aquatic insects, such as damselfly larva,or dragon fly larva, and crustaceans such as small crayfish. The calico bass will be close by if you can locate one of these food choices they are feeding on and then imitate your bait fishing crappie bait to match as natural as possible. The closer you can match your crappie bait fishing selection to there natural food source the better luck you will have.

Papermouth will feed on a variety of bait fish through out the year. The species of bait fish that the speckled bass feed on depends on a variety of different factors such as the season of the year and the area of the country you are fishing. For example if you are bait fishing for white perch in a farm pond in the spring and early summer you would probably use small sunfish fry to fish as a live bait or a artificial bait presentation. Small sunfish fry are typically abundant in farm ponds at the time of your and crappie love to feed on them when they are available. Or for example for example if you were fishing in southern waters and the area of water you are fishing on has large populations of threadfin or gizzard shad then you would locate the shad schools to go bait fishing for crappie.

Strawberry Bass are opportunists and will adapt to the food source that is available to them. For example if there is a new hatch of mayfly larva in the water that you are fishing a good bait fishing selection would be live mayflies or a mayfly larva imitation because chance are any crappie or other game fish in the area will feeding on the mayfly larva.

Know most fisherman think to use crustaceans for crappie bait but the truth be told small crustaceans such as small crayfish under 2″ in length make a large portion of the crappies daily diet. Another bait fish that is seldom used for calico bass are small goldfish and when traditional bait fish selection are not working sometimes fishing with small gold fish will be the answer. Unlike other non traditional crappie baits such as threadfin and gizzard shad that need to be caught in the wild, goldfish are sold at just about any bait shop throughout the united states.

Well that concludes my article about Strawberry Bass. Have a great day and the the best of luck to you on your next fishing trip

Click Here To See A Secret Weapon For Crappie Fishing My Friend Discovered In 2004

When you you go bait fishing for crappie with live bait having a stocked tackle back full of needed crappie live bait fishing tackle is very important to make up your crappie live bait fishing rigs.If you plan on only fishing crappie minnows than your tackle box may be quite small. But if plan on tipping artificial crappie jigs and spinners then you’re your tackle box and size will be much bigger.

To start with if you plan on fishing for crappie with a live bait such as small fathead crappie minnows. To fish with crappie minnows you will need a nice assortment of crappie Aberdeen gold hooks ranging in size from number 4 through number 1. Have at least 10 of each on hand. If you plan on fishing larger crappie minnows such as shiners then you will need 1/0 to 2/0 Aberdeen gold hooks. Again keep a minimum of 10 each on hand.

You will need a variety of crappie fishing bobbers that are designed to fish at a certain depth. You will need small fixed depth bobbers, I use a Styrofoam bobber that slides on your line and then you put a small wooden stick at the top of the bobber to keep the line from sliding through. You can move the bobber up and down the line you need to remove the stick first, then replace it once you are at your desired depth.

It is very important if you are going to go bait fishing for suspended crappie to have an assortment of different slip boobers. Slip bobbers come in a assortment of different sizes and shapes. One of my favorite types for suspended crappie is a pencil shaped slip bobber. Make sure you size your slip bobber to the size of the live bait you plan on fishing with, and the sinker size you intend to use. If you are fishing deep water you will need more weight to get you bait down to the desired depth quickly. As a result you will need a larger slip bobber. You want your slip bobber to just barely stay afloat with your live bait and sinker attached so you you can notice the very slightest of crappie hits. You also do not want the crappies to feel any line resistance when they take your live bait presentation.

If you plan on fishing for crappies with any crappie jigs that you plan on tipping with live bait then you will need at least a selection different plain jigs in various sizes, from 1/64 ounce to 1/16 ounce. Have at least a quantity of 5 each of the different sizes. You will be able to cast the smaller jigs if you add a bobber.

You also will need to keep a spool of 4 to 8 pound test line in your tackle box for situations were you are fishing with ultra light crappie fishing tackle. You should also have a spool of 15lb test line in case you find an area to fish heavy brush or weed cover. It better to bend your Aberdeen hooks then break your line in these situations. A good quick fishing knot to use when you are crappie fishing is the Palomar knot. And this knot works well for any test line you will use.

Another very useful piece of crappie fishing tackle that works great for brushy or thick weed areas is the safety pin spinner and you should have a t least an assortment of 5 each in your tackle box. They are easy to use and assemble directly your existing crappie jigs. They not only ad some flash to your crappie live bait presentation but they also make your crappie fishing rig weedless. The safety pin spinner bait is also a good way to get the crappies attention on a slow fishing day. Remove any plastic from your jig and slide on a fathead crappie minnow and let the spinner bait do its work.

I have had a great time writing this article we hope you enjoyed our information about crappie minnows. Have a great day!

If you are ready to step up your crappie fishing you will usually catch more using crappie fishing lures rather then using live bait. Of course this statement is based on knowing what artificial lures to use. When you use crappie fishing lures smaller is better. Look for lures in the 1/4oz or smaller size.List of crappie fishing lures to use:Curly Tail Jigs,Marabou Jigs,Weedless Spinners, (they have a jig attached) smallest you can find,Willow Leaf Blades: Silver Colorado Or Gold BladesThe above listed crappie fishing lures can be bought at any department store, bait shop, or online . Most of these lures can be purchased for very little. Make sure whencomparing prices you compare prices on crappie fishing lures that are in the oz or smaller range.Suggested ways to use crappie fishing lures:When Fishing Curly tail Jig crappie fishing lures – This uniquely designed jig head takes your bait to the bottom where the big ones are. It allows you to thread a plastic lure onto the corkscrew and hook it through the tail. The innovative flat-bottom jig head helps the hook stand up at a 60?angle.

Your hooked bait stands up straight off the bottom and is free I recommend you use a karlins lunker curley tail. This crappie fishing lure is a good choice to use when using a slip bobber rig. When Fishing Marabou crappie fishing lures – use the 1/4oz size a good way to fish this crappie fishing lure is use a slip bobber , place a split on the line so the jig falls to a set depth. When Fishing Weedless Spinner crappie fishing lures use the 1/16oz size . Use when fishing low water visibility muddy or murky water. When Fishing the Willow Leaf Blade crappie fishing lure ?fish the lure very slow, slow if you use the 1/16oz lure the hook will bend before you loose your jig, you can use over and over again. The larger sizes work well but they break the line when snagging. Also , put on a karlins plastic Curly tail 2″ long. There are no guarantees that you will catch crappie with the crappie fishing lures shown above, but if stick with purchasing small crappie fishing lures you up your chances of catching a good batch of crappie.Well, good luck and good fishing!

Click Here To See A Secret Weapon For Crappie Fishing My Friend Discovered In 2004

Most people think that the crappie jig catches the most and the biggest crappies, but contrary to popular belief it is live bait that has caught the most and also that largest trophy slab crappie over the years. According to studies and statistics that have been kept and the studies that have been done since the early 1970’s crappie live bait has come out the winner for catching the most and biggest crappie. It is key to know crappies are some amazing and very adaptable fish species. These fish have so many aliases such as calico bass, speckled bass, speckled perch, white perch, pole crappie, stawberry bass, and papermouth. The best live baits that have caught the most and biggest crappie are such crappie baits as crappie, minnows, crappie shiners, waxworms, small gizzard shad, small threadfin shad, and earthworms. These crappie live baits were used in combination with slip float fishing rigs, crappie jigs, worm harnesses, crappie spinner baits and crappie ice jigs. Crappie spinner baits were tipped with crappie minnows, shiners, and night crawlers. Crappie jigs were tipped with crappie minnows, shiners and nightcrawlers to catch crappie. Worm harnesses were used using small earth worms or pieces of night crawlers. Top live baits that have produced award winning crappie catches are large crappie minnows, shiners, waxworms, fathead minnows , small gizzard shad, small threadfin shad, leaches, earthworms, creek chubs, and herring. These live baits were used with jig head and spinner bait combinations.

The best artificial crappie baits used to catch crappies were in the size range of 1/16oz to 1/2oz. The crappie artificial bait types varied greatly. Crappie jigs in the size range of 1/16oz to 3/8oz tipped with a plastic grub or other soft plastics in combination with a crappie jig head of a variety of colors caught a good number of award crappies too. If the jigs were tipped with wax worms the number crappies caught increased even more. Plain crappie jig heads of a number of colors tipped with crappie minnows or shiners were a producer when bait fishing for crappie also.

Over the years there are a few crappie fishing jig head and soft plastic combos that have consistently caught large numbers of crappies. A jig head painted different colors in the size range of 1/16 oz to 1/8 oz tipped with a Mister Twister curly tail is the top producer of crappie catches of all times. Mepps crappie spinner baits and small floating rapalas have also been top producers of large award winning crappies. When you combine these artificial crappie lures with crappie live bait they have produced even more consistently.

Click Here To See A Secret Weapon For Crappie Fishing My Friend Discovered In 2004

crappies have some amazing names that local fisherman have given them over the yearssuch as calico bass, speckled bass, white perch, pole crappie, strawberry bass, and papermouth. Reguardless of the name or aliases the papermouth is well equipped for taste and smell. The crapppie have extraordinary olfactory organs for smelling and taste buds to determine flavor. You can use this fact to your advantage when you go bait fishing for strawberry bass is well equipped for taste and smell. The speckled bass and need to make a decision on what crappie bait is best to catch crappie. Their smell is very acute but not quite as good as the catfish, or other fish species such as salmon, that depend upon there smell to find forage in murky waters or for long migrations.

Crappie minnows use their olfaction senses as a protection mechanism to sense danger. These minnows secret a pheromone that other crappie minnows smell to avoid danger areas. It is not known for sure if crapppie can sense this pheromone but there are indications that they do just like the northern pike does.

You can use this fact to your advantage when you are crappie fishing for crapppie while bait fishing using such crappie live bait as minnows as fathead minnows and shiners. If you keep your crappie minnows alive while on the hook , there’s a good possibility that any calico bass in the area will come to investigate because they can smell their danger pheromone.

Many crappie anglers swear by coating their artificial live bait imitations with a manufactures sent that is suppose simulate the smell of a distressed crappie minnows danger pheromone. To properly fish these artificial live bait imitations crappie fishermanneed to use a slow crappie bait presentation while crappie fishing. There are other manufactured scents that imitate the smell of crayfish or shad that work well while papermouth fishing also. These scents are usually manufactured mixed with anise, salt, amino acids and mixture of shad or crayfish which are both excellent natural crappie baits. When you us these sprays make sure you donot touch your bait after spraying or you will defeat the purpose of using the sprays.

Studies have conducted to see what taste the speckled bass respond too. The results seemed to favor just a few of the trial tastes. The best response came from crappie fishing baits sprayed scents and tastes that imitate small crayfish, crappie minnows such as fathead minnows, and shiners with shad imitations close behind.

The crappies all over their habitat range are called a lot of different names such as calico bass, speckled perch, speckled bass, white perch, pole crappies, strawberry bass, and paper mouth. When calico bass move into the pre summer period which happens when the water temperature goes into the 70 degree range. The pre-summer period is when the white perch, pole crappies move into their regular feeding patterns and they are much more predicable.

The pre-summer period is when the food chain is most plentiful and the speckled bass are in full feeding mode. You can catch crappie on just about any crappie bait using a variety of different crappie fishing rigs. white perch, pole crappies will be found in multiple locations such as weed beds, flats, breaks, and some will always be suspended. They may be concentrated in just one of these areas, but many times during the pre-summer period you will find strawberry bass at all of these locations at the same time.

You will be able to catch crappie with live bait or artificial crappie jigs. Also a combination of crappie jig heads tipped with crappie live bait such as crappie minnows, flat head minnows, shiners, and small crayfish will work well. Actually just about any crappie bait will work well during the pre-summer period.

In deep southern lakes and reservoirs papermoth will appear on primary and secondary points on the main lake where there is a break or drop off to deeper water. Deep timbered channel edges will also hold strawberry bass during the pre-summer period.

In northern lakes papermoth will move to area’s to establish themselves in the habitat they intend to stay with throughout the summer. As long as their natural food source remain the same the speckled bass will remain in these areas. That is why in northern lakes the papermoth will be very predicable during this period and crappie baits such as any live bait like crappie minnows, shiners, fathead minnows, small crayfish, and even fresh mussel meat will work to catch crappie during the pre-summer and summer periods.

Jigging for largemouth bass is a very effective way method to catch largemouth bass. Jigging for bass is especially effective when fishing deep water where a vertical bass bait presentation is essential. Largemouth bass jigs come in all different sizes, shapes, and types and they are typically tipped with a live bait selection. Largemouth bass can be caught by jigging bait fish or a Varity of different bass fishing soft plastics or rubber skirts.

Normally jigging is done by rapidly moving your line in a up and down motion , but when you are jigging for largemouth bass there are many other jigging methods used. A bass jig is a lead head that comes in a varity of different shapes sizes and is painted many different colors. The lead head jig is than tipped with a variety of soft plastics or live bait that is used for bait fishing for largemouth bass. There are a number of types of jigs that are used for bass in different bait fishing situations. You could use a weedless jig to avoid hang ups. One of the most popular jigging method used for bass fishing using a jig head and a rubber or plastic skirt is what is called the “jig and the pig”. This technique is commonly used when bait fishing dense cover for largemouth bass.

If you are fishing deep water for large mouth bass jigging is the preferred method of choice. You can use either a bass jigging spoons tipped with soft plastics or live bait or a football head jig tipped with live bait or soft plastics and rubber skirts it’s your choice. Also vibrating blades on a jigging spoon work exceptionally well in deep water bait fishing presentations. For rocky bottoms go bait fishing for large mouth bass using football ball head jigs dressed with a live crayfish or a artificial soft plastic crayfish imitation. The football head jig is used on rocky bottoms because it won’t getstuck in the rocks as easy. Make use of the weedless option when fishing rocky bottoms for largemouth bass. Use a slider jig set up with a plastic grub or worm, or a live bait such as a nightcrawler or ribbon leech when you are bait fishing for bass over weed tops.

Old School Crappie Fishing Family Secrets

Crappie are a most adaptable species of gamefish and fisherman all over the country call them different names such as calico bass, speckled perch, speckled bass, white perch, pole crappies strawberry bass, and papermouths. During the post summer period of the year the underwater ecosystem is in complete reversal. The post summer ecosystem reversal is the complete opposite of the pre-summer period where the ecosystem is gearing up full speed. The water temperature is cooling rapidly compared to the prime summer period and many things are changing daily including the crappies mood, and feeding patterns.

Crappie fishing during the post summer period is often quite unpredictable. Sometimes crappie fishing baits you were using in the peak of the summer period such as crappie live baits like crappie minnows, shiners, fathead minnows, small crayfish, or mussel meat will work. Other times you may have to mix your crappie baits up with a combination crappie jigs and live bait or even crappie jigs and soft plastics tipped with live bait like wax worms or a small crappie minnow.

During the post summer period speckled bass are feeding on what is left of the forage that existed during the prime summer period. All of the paper mouth food chain is in decline. Water levels are at their lowest point of the year drive the white perch to deeper areas of their habitats. The crappies will hold tight together in cover that is available in these deep areas. The paper mouth typically will not suspend during the post summer period. Locate some deep structure points and you probably will catch crappie. A good crappie fishing technique that works well in this period of the year is to use crappie jigs tipped with live bait with a safety pin spinner fished slowly. Go crappie fishing along the edges of deep weeded areas and deep timber lines. You will need to find the paper mouth by fishing as many structure edge lines as you can find until you start catching crappie. The white perch will typically hole up in tight schools during the post summer period and if you can find these schools you can catch some crappie.

Old School Crappie Fishing Family Secrets

the crappie is one of the most sought after game fish in America and they have been named odd names such as calico crappie, speckled perch, speckled bass, white perch, pole crappies, strawberry bass, and papermouths. When the water temperature starts to warm slightly above more the 50 degrees farenheight it is time to get your crappie live baits and other crappie baits ready for the upcoming spring season of crappie fishing.

Strawberry Bass will start their annual migration from their coldwater locations to key new foraging locations. In the north this early spring period will sart right after ice out and actually the temperature of the water will be in the high 30’s. and the month of the year normally will be sometime in March to Early April. In the south, crappies move from deep water when the temperature rises above 40 degrees to coves, and back ends of creeks, about the end of February to the end of march.

During this early spring period strawberry bass are hungry and ready to feed. Remember though the water is still cold so you need to work your crappie baits slowly. Some very good crappie live baits to use are crappie minnows, shiners, small creek chubs, small gizzard shad, small threadfin shad, and small crayfish. You can catch crappie at this time a year in the southern regions using crappie jigs and plastics or crappie jig, live bait combinations in broad feed creeks, where the water warms faster. Channel bends with stumps will often hold white perch at this time of year also.

Crappies in large lakes and reservoirs will stage and suspend over deep water 20 to 40 feet deep usually just beyond the first drop of leading into the shallow zones they will be using for their annual spawn. In most reservoirs the speckled perch will normally stage in creek arms so if you are going to be bait fishing for crappie in the early spring period you will want to use large crappie jigs to do your crappie fishing using large crappie minnows and shiners.

In small lakes and ponds papermouths will suspend over the deepest holes waiting to go to shallow water for the annual spawn. So an ideal way to catch crappie in these waters is by using a slip bobber crappie fishing rig with a crappie jig head tipped with large crappie minnows and shiners. Also small crayfish will work. You will need to adjust your depth until you start catching crappie. The reason you want to use larger crappie live baits at this time of year is because you need to math the natural forage that the calico bass is feeding on at this time of year. The white perch are feeding on what was left of the natural bait fish from
the previous year because the bait fish have not spawned yet so there will be no fry at this time of year.

I want to thank you for reading my article about Speckled Perch. Have a great day and the the best of luck to you on your next fishing trip
