Click Here To See A Secret Weapon For Crappie Fishing My Friend Discovered In 2004

In low – land reservoirs you can go crappie fishing much like in natural lakes. Crappie will be called such names by the locals such as calico bass, speckled perch, speckled bass, white perch, pole crappie, strawberry bass, and papermouth. Low land reservoirs will hold good populations of calico bass. You will be able to catch crappie with traditional crappie baits in these reservoirs.

Low land reservoirs are th shallowest of the impoundment reservoirs. Many times these reservoirs are no more then 15 foot in depth. The deepest part of low land reservoirs will be the old river channel close to the dam area. Low land reservoirs will have vast flats with timber and thick vegetation ideal habit for crappieThere is little current in these reservoirs so your crappie fishing patterns will be similar to those you use in a natural lake. For example in a natural lake that is fairly clear water with an abundance of weed vegetation you would concentrate crappie fishing along the edges using various crappie baits like crappie jigs and plastic grubs tipped with wax worms or livebaits such as crappie minnows, flathead minnows, shiners or small crayfish. In low land reservoirs that are clear with abundant vegetation you would follow the same pattern.

You will locate paper mouth by fishing the edges of weed beds and submerged brush (just like my example above). You will also find crappie in the old creek channel or river bed. You will also be ale to catch crappie in large flats where there are roaming calico bass by drifting. Many times you will also find speckled perch in the wide inlet areas of the reservoir.

Low land reservoirs will also have many shallow bays and low islands that are crappie magnets that are great locations for catching crappie. You can drift these areas with your crappie rods set at deferent depths with a combination of crappie rods set up with a crappie jig and a plastic grub tipped with wax worms and also crappie live bait such as crappie minnows or shiners.

You can also go crappie fishing by drifting or trolling points that have a hard bottom. These areas will normally hold roaming papermouth. You can sometimes catch crappie using submerged crappie crank baits and this is an excellent crappie fishing technique to find what depth the papermouth are located.

Just a note of reference, the old main river or channel will seldom be close to the shore line. This area is always a hotspot for white perch. A good way to locate the old channel is using a topographical map in combination with a GPS and good fishing finder.

If you target submerged structure along the edges of the old channel you can catch crappie. You can use a re variety of different crappie baits that will allow you to fish very close to the old river channels edge and drop your bait into the drop off. This is an excellent technique to catch crappie that are suspended there

Click Here To See A Secret Weapon For Crappie Fishing My Friend Discovered In 2004

Article 108

Catching suspended crappie in confined open water

True open water involves vast expanses of water over 20ft feet in depth. “Confined open water” defines areas of open water adjacent or near to shallow structural elements. The crappie is a very popular game fish that young, old, and novice and experienced fisherman have given names such as calico bass, speckled bass, speckled perch, white perch, pole crappie, strawberry bass, and papermouth. The paper mouth is a suspending species of fish but not a true open water fish like the steelhead, stripper bass, or salmon. True open water fish are streamlined, and powerful and able to cover large distances in a short period of time. The calico bass is not built for speed or power and stay near structure where most of the crappie food is located.

In lake and reservoirs where there is submerged timber lines key suspending crappie depths will be 30 to 55 ft deep. Using a slip bobber rig with a crappie jig tipped with a plastic grub and wax worm will work here. Try using weedless hooks on your crappie jigs and make sure you have enough weight to get your crappie jig down 30ft quickly. The weight of your crappie jig and a large split shot should do the trick. You can also use crappie jigging spoons tipped with crappie minnows and shiners. In stable weather there also will be suspended crappie just above the timber tops of the trees located out on the edge of the timber line.

Environmental circumstances will determine the paper mouth position on a timbered point. When weather conditions are mild and stable suspended crappie will be located high in the tree tops or they will move to shallower trees, but rarely in water less then 15ft deep. Yo can sometimes run suspended crappie artificial baits such as crappie crank baits at a specified depth and you will catch some speckled bass. Cold fronts, and fridgid wate or a drop in water levels will push the pole crappie into deeper water and into dense cove in the heart of the trees. These fish will have a negative feeding mood and will be hard to catch.

Suspended crappies in timberline areas are fun to catch once you learn where they are located at and at what depth. Just keep in mind that you can use a variety of different crappie baits such as crappie live baits like crappie minnows, gizzard shad, threadfin shad, shiners, fathead minnows, and even small crayfish to catch crappie. Or switch it up and a use a combination of artificial crappie jigs tipped with crappie live bait. Just use your imagination. 75 percent of you fishing is going to be finding the paper mouth location.

I want to thank you for reading my article about Crappie Fishing Tackle. Have a great day and the the best of luck to you on your next fishing trip

The the crappie or called other names such as calico bass, speckled perch, speckled bass, white perch, pole crappies, strawberry bass, and the papermouth. During the peak period of summer the water temperature is ideal med 70’s range. The entire food chain I moving at a very fast pace and the paper mouth are feeding aggressively. This is prime crappie fishing time and you should have all your bait fishing for crappie fishing rigs, and crappie baits ready to go.

During the peak summer period speckled perch are feeding aggressively and they are very predicable and it is easy to catch crappie. This is an excellent time of year for new fisherman to learn how to catch crappie. Just about any pole crappies fishing baits such live baits like crappie minnows, shiners, small crayfish, or even fresh mussel meat will work to catch a basket full of white perch for your skillet. Also crappie artificial baits such as crappie jigs, tipped with soft plastic grubs, curly tails and many other Varity of soft plastics will work. Even crappie crank baits are productive during the peak summer period.

Feeding habits for papermouth will vary greatly during the prime summer months. You will be able to catch crappie in locations such as weed beds, flats, breaks and some will be suspended.

In natural lakes, deep weeds start to develop a distinct edge. These edges are great to go bait fishing with various crappie baits along. These edges can be fished by using crappie jigs using a vertical jigging method or by trolling, or drifting using crappie jigs fished at various depths until you find what depth the papermouth are concentrated at.

This is also the time of year that speckled bass follow large schools of threadfin shad and gizzard shad and roam large lakes and reservoirs that have populations of these bait fish. One great technique to catch crappie when you locate a large school of shad is to go crappie fishing using either live freshly caught shad or crappie bait shad imitations. To fish fresh shad you need to net them and use them immediately because they die quickly. To use live shad as a crappie bait you will need one split shot , a crappie hook and a slip bobber. Cast out to the edge of the shad school and let your live shad do the work for you. Adjust the depth of your slip bobber until you find the depth that the speckled perch are holding.

Well that concludes my article about paper mouth. Have a great day and the the best of luck to you on your next fishing trip

No Exit Popup Old School Crappie Fishing Course Link

The crappies can adapt and live in just about any type of lake and they go by names throughout the country such names as calico bass, speckled perch, speckled bass, white perch, strawberry bass, and paper mouths. During the summer period speckled bass become less aggressive and to catch crappie you need to use some fishing savvy to locate the calico bass and to identify crappie baits that will work best.

The white perch are less aggressive because the natural forage such as crappie minnow fry, insects, plankton , adult crappie minnows, shiners, fathead minnows, small crayfish are plentiful and the white perch can be more selective on what crappie baits such as crappie crank baits, crappie jigs, crappie jigs tipped with live baits that they will attack for food. The speckled bass have replenished their energy levels from the winter and they are attacking anything that looks live food anymore. The papermouths are much more selective during the summer period.

The sun is high in the sky and the dog days of summer have hit the environment above the surface, but the underwater world is in high gear. During the summer period of the year thermo clines form in natural lakes and reservoirs. In the natural scheme of things old mother nature responds by regulating feeding time for all the different species of fish including the paper mouths.

In some big reservoirs the big paper mouths will move entirely out of the shallows and into deeper water areas. The dead of summer is the best time of your to get your gear together anight fishing for crappie nd head out to the lake. You will need a good underwater fishing light and some good led powered lamps to make your night fishing trip more enjoyable. The purpose of the under water fishing light is to attract bait fish to your area and get the papermouths started in a feeding frenzy.

The pole crappies are nocturnal and they feed aggressively at night during the heat of the summer. A good night fishing crappie rig would consist of a slip bobber that has a small battery powered led light that attaches at the top. Place small split shot and a good crappie hook on your line next. Live crappie baits such as crappie minnows, shiners, fathead minnows, small crayfish and even fresh mussel meat work very as crappie bait at night.

Well that concludes my article about Paper Mouth. We wish you the best of luck on your next fishing trip!

Old School Crappie Fishing Family Secrets

crappies have some amazing names that local fisherman have given them over the years such as calico bass, speckled perch, speckled bass, white perch, pole crappie, strawberry bass, and paper mouth you would think you were being took by a bunch of con artists. The crappie spawning season typically starts when water temperature ranges between 64 to 72 fare height speckled bass do not spawn at the same time which is why you can still catch crappies while bait fishing with various crappie live baits and crappie artificial baits during the spawn. Actually even crappies on their nest will attack a crappie bait that is placed near their nest.

The speckled bass spawning period is different in different parts of the speckled bass‘s habitat range. In Florida the paper mouth typically spawn between march and april. In Alabama and Georgia it is also between march and April. In Texas and Oklahoma the strawberry bass spawn starts in march and continues through May. In Kentucky and Tennesse the strawberry bass spawn falls between April and May. In Missouri, Illinois, and Iowa the speckled bass spawn occurs between April and June, Ohio pole crappie have a spawning period between April through July. Oregon has a spawning period between march and June. In Minnesota , Michigan, and Wisconsin the paper mouth spawn between May and June. In Ontario Canada the speckled bass spawn between June and August.

The first paper mouth to spawn in any areas will be the ones located in backwater coves and bays. The last last speckled bass to spawn are the ones located on north facing bays and lake shorelines that warm slowly.

During the actual spawn the female will leave the her eggs the leave he next and the male will guard the next. The male speckled perch will fan the eggs until the fry hatch. The eggs will typically hatch in about one week. The male will remain and guard the fry for about two weeks after the hatch. During the spawn to catch male crappie you will need to put your crappie bait right over the nest. Crappie crank baits or crappie jigs fished vertically will work. The male crappie will attack just about anything that comes close to the nest during this period . The female crappies can be caught in deeper water because that is where they head after they lay their eggs A good way to find the female white perch After the spawn is to drift deep water structure points near the edges using multiple crappie fishing rigs with a variation of live crappie baits as well as artificial crappie baits.

Crappie are a gamefish that are located in waters in all the lower 48 states and they go by many different games such as calico crappie, speckled perch, speckled bass, pole crappie, white perch, stawberry bass, and paper mouth. Bait fishing for crappie using crank baits is probably one of the most seldom used method of catching crappie. One of the best places and time to use these crappie lures is when they are feeding on schools of threadfin shad, and gizzard shad.

The best sizes select when bait fishing for crappie are 1 1/4″ to 3 1/2″ size crank baits. It is not uncommon when the pole crappie are in a feeding frenzy to hook a few double catches of pole crappie at the same time. When you make your selection make sure you select a crank bait lure that has a rattle built into it. The vibration really attracts paper mouth. You also want to match the color of your crank bait to the color of the bait fish that the speckled bass are feed on, or as close as you can get. For example if you are following the shad schools catch a few shad to check their size and color. Also you should try to match the movement of your lure when you are bait fishing as close as you can to the movement of the bait fish the calico crappie are feeding on. Here again watch the shad as they move through the water and try to set your cranks to move the same as close as you can.

Cranks work great in the spring during the spawning season. When crappie are on their beds they hit just about anything that comes close to their nest. Paper Mouth are very active and feeding like crazy because the have been so inactive during the winter months. Their metabolisms start to crank up and they are ready to feed. This is a good thing for us crappie fisherman. The bait fish that the crappie will be feeding on will be larger because the bait fish will have not spawned yet so there will not be an abundance of bait fish fry to feed on. Again, another good reason to use crank baits for crappie.

Other very good spots to catch crappie with cranks are around docks, weed edges, and rock points. You will need to have a variety of different types of crank baits. You will want to have some shallow runners, deep divers, and crank baits that stay suspended. If you can find bait fishing crank baits that are lip less you will have better luck. Lip less crank baits can be used in clear or muddied or stained waters. You need to have a variety of sizes and both floating and sinking lip less cranks. 1 to 3 inch with 1/12 to 1/2 once weights work he best. Sonic lip less crank baits work the best because they have a internal rattle built into them. Crappie are very attracted to vibrations and have very sensitive hearing.
